Union Square Events, a Danny Meyer concept, is expanding its footprint to the Hamptons for the first time. The acclaimed culinary and operations leader in the hospitality industry is leading the food and beverage operations at the iconic Canoe Place Inn & Cottages, a landmark destination steeped in history and scenic charm. This marks USE’s debut in the Hamptons, headlined by the Good Ground Tavern restaurant within the boutique inn.
Canoe Place, the site of America’s oldest inn, situated at 239 E Montauk Hwy in Hampton Bays, boasts a rich history dating back to the 17th century. Renowned for its picturesque waterfront location, the inn blends historic elegance with contemporary luxury, making it a favored retreat. The property, restored in 2022, features 20 guest rooms, five guest cottages, a full-service spa by Sommetbeauty, pool, and a 350-seat private event space.
Good Ground Tavern, specializing in seasonal American cuisine, is committed to sustainability and farm-to-table dining. The menu, inspired by Mediterranean flavors and centered around open-fire cooking, showcases artisanal dishes made from locally sourced ingredients, including fresh seafood from nearby waters and produce from local farms. The restaurant offers versatile indoor dining spaces, from intimate dinners to group gatherings, while a covered terrace set in a lush garden provides an idyllic setting for al fresco dining. A hidden private study behind the tavern, reminiscent of a speakeasy, offers an intimate cocktail experience.
In addition to Good Ground Tavern, USE will manage in-room dining services. USE will also oversee event catering at Canoe Place, offering bespoke services for weddings, corporate events, and special occasions.
“Union Square Events is honored to extend enlightened hospitality to this treasured property and to become a part of its renowned story. It is a true privilege to be able to work alongside Canoe Place’s owners, Gregg and Mitchell Rechler of Rechler Equity Partners, and Main Street Hospitality Group, sharing in their passion for world-class dining and guest experience,” said Tony Mastellone, President of Union Square Events.
Nickolas Martinez, vice president of culinary operations, and Eric Rodriguez, vice president of operations at Union Square Events, are at the helm of this partnership.
“We are thrilled to draw from our rich heritage to ensure that every guest feels welcomed and cared for while dining with us, or celebrating a special occasion. We aim to create memorable experiences and build on the existing foundation to continue to build a sense of community,” stated Mastellone.
