Molly Sims, entrepreneur, actress, and founder of YSE Beauty, joined Hers and Dr. Jessica Shepherd, Chief Medical Officer of Hers, at Quarters in New York City to discuss her thoughts on women’s health and her perimenopause and menopause experience on Wednesday, October 15. This event was timed with the release of Hers’ new offering for women experiencing perimenopause and menopause.

“I’m still getting comfortable saying I’m not alone in this,” said Sims. “Traditionally, it’s been hard for people to relate to or understand what women go through. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Now more than ever, we have a voice and can name our experiences. The more we talk openly about perimenopause and menopause, the more society will normalize and embrace these conversations.”

Sims and Dr. Shepherd led an inspiring fireside chat highlighting open dialogue and empowerment around menopause.

“I had kids very late in life. I’m 52 with an 8-year-old. And what was most shocking to me is that you don’t know about perimenopause and menopause until you experience it. I was having all of these symptoms without knowing the root cause, and it felt like my body would change every few months. I can have hot flashes one month, and the next it’ll suddenly go away, and I’ll feel fine again. Why is my heart racing – is it because of stress, or is it because of perimenopause? For me, not knowing has been the hardest part. This is why I feel that it’s important to be able to talk about it and identify it,” Sims continued.

Dr. Shepherd shared, “This isn’t just about medication – it’s about building and growing a platform that women can trust to access the care they need. Women have been navigating an outdated healthcare system that wasn’t designed for them for too long. Hers was built to serve every woman on her terms. I’ve been an OB/GYN for more than 20 years, and I know that transforming the healthcare experience for women starts with increasing access to providers who are trained specifically in caring for women at every life stage. As one of the largest digital health platforms, we can help change the way women experience healthcare and thrive.”

On advice for women experiencing perimenopause and menopause, Sims said, “Surround yourself with good girlfriends and invest in your people. Journal in order to take note of how you feel so you can identify changes in your body. And most importantly, find fun. Try to lead with having fun.”

“As we get older, we get buried in work, money, and the constant juggle of life. We miss the idea of fun. I don’t know that a lot of menopausal women look at their life as fun. Let your kids see you happy because they aren’t the only ones that should be enjoying their lives,” she continued.

Guests included women of influence in wellness and beyond, including Taryn Toomey, Erika Bloom, Jennifer Fisher, Dria Murphy, Marie Forleo, Talia Parkinson, Elizabeth Kurpis, Danielle Olivera, Lydia Fenet, and Kim Strother, who rounded out the evening of conversation, connection, and celebration.
